War Julian in Paris!

Paris. The city that gives you instant Joie de vivre the moment you arrive. The Eifel tower, the river Seine, gilded angel sculptures; everything seems so beautiful and romantic.

The city is of course synonymous with exquisite fashion. This is the home city of formidable couture houses like Chanel and Dior, but young Parisian designers are also showing their take on how to dress-up- chic, street, parisian style.

And the Art – you don’t even need to go to the Louvre or Musee d’Orsay as the Parisian street is your very own museum.

I’m very at home here.

I romanticised and idealised Paris ever since I was a child.

I think of it as a world filtered in sepia color;

where everybody’s so refined and immaculately attired;

colourful macarons and mouth-watering eclairs;

Edith Piaf’s La Vie En Rose, softly playing in the background;

and the eye-catching Eiffel tower spreading pixie dusts, turning  the whole city oh-so glittery and gay!

My exuberance as I arrive in Paris is pretty much like that of Carrie Bradshaw in the Sex and the City: Paris episode.

If you have no clue what I am talking about – I’m looking at you right now with total disgust and disappointment!

Cue in some screenshot pictures:

Fabulous, right?

But of course, this is my own Parisian life fantasies. In reality, like any other big cities in the world, some parts of Paris are dirty, polluted, traffic-jammed, smelly;

So, like Carrie, I had miserable Parisian moments too.

Ok, so I’m a little bit obsessed with Carrie Bradshaw but the POINT is – did I allow unhappy moments ruin my stay in Paris?

Non.

Never!

The positive and negative aspects of the city make Paris what it is. Old and new. Glitzy and dusty. Shabby and chic.

For me, Paris will forever be that charming, romantic, sepia-coloured city, with an imposing fairy dust-sprinkling eiffel.

Fantasies (while maintaining sanity) are way better than realities.
